This tribute page is one of the most popular and most mentioned pages over the past several years. I have had the opportunity to meet and work with some remarkable people in my life. I have learned a great deal and would definitely not be the person I am today without the counsel and guidance of these and many other persons.
Rex Hunt
The person who had the greatest impact on my political career is without a doubt, my father, Rex Hunt. He was an amazing man who gave me a vision of what politics should be. A city worker for a large part of his life, he made an impact on his adopted home town. I was never prouder than when we opened the new City Garage and my dad was there.
Mayor Jack Gorby
Mayor Jack Gorby was one of the finest public servants which I have had the pleasure of knowing. Jack taught me a lot about working with people. He was a person who had his citizens's concerns at heart. We had some of the best times of my life when we were working on the School Bond Election. Giving the eulogy at his memorial service was one of the toughest speeches I have ever given.
Jennifer Waybright
Jennifer Waybright is a person who has had a great impact on my life. I met Jennifer when she was a young girl and I was coaching a handicapped T-Ball team. Since that time, I have seen the courage of this young woman and she has inspired me when times have been tough. Jennifer is an example of a person who has overcome great obstacles and works every day to have a positive attitude. Update: I had the honor of attending Jennifer's wedding in October 2009. She looked beautiful and I wish her the best in her new life.
Carl Furbee
Carl Furbee was a friend and colleague. We were privileged to serve as mayors during the F.B. I. Annexation battle. Carl kept a sense of humor during this time and I think it was one of the reasons we were able to come up with a resoultion to our dilemma. Carl served as chaplain during my tenure as President of the West Virginia Municipal League.
Karen Anderson
Karen Anderson is a person that I have come to admire a great deal. I had the opportunity to travel to China with Karen and I learned what a strong and dynamic leader she has become. She was Chairman of the Leadership Training Council and has been an inspirational President of the National League of Cities. She was President on September 11 and did a tremedous job in leading our cities to deal with the effects of terrorism.
Pastor Kates
When I am asked what I am most proud of after serving 20 years in public service, without a doubt it is the appointment and subsequent election of Pastor Kates to the Clarksburg City Council. Pastor Kates is one of the most remarkable people that I have ever met. He has given his life to public service and has helped thousands of people from all walks of life. The most important vote I have ever cast was the vote to elect Pastor Kates, Mayor of Clarksburg.
Bill Six
One of the nicest people I have ever known was a councilman from Vienna, West Virginia. Bill Six served on the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Municipal League and was one of my biggest supporters during my campaign for President of the League. Bill was a great husband and father. We shared many great times during our travels with the National League of Cities.
Frank Iconis
Frank Iconis was a treasure in the City of Clarksburg. Rarely missing a council meeting, Frank would walk to the podium with his metal walker. Frank loved the City of Clarksburg and was a solid union supporter. He touched my heart when he brought me a cake on Father's Day, the year after my father passed away. There will never be another like Frank Iconis.
Russ Bonasso
Russ Bonasso of Fairmont was one of the most incredible people that I have ever met. I used to tell him that my goal was to be just like him. He did so many interesting and important things in his life and never saw a challenge that was too great for him. He inspired me to write my first book. I'll never forget him and I miss him a great deal. Thanks Russ.
